EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Ironwood Housing Commission owns, operates and maintains 147 units of public housing in the City of Ironwood. The Ironwood Housing commission has been serving residents of the City of Ironwood since 1968. Since that time the Commission has consistently been rated as a high performer by the office of Housing and Urban Development. The Ironwood Housing Commission has adopted the following mission statement to guide its ongoing operations.

The Mission statement of the Ironwood Housing Commission is to provide the following:

  1. Safe, decent and affordable housing opportunities in the City of Ironwood, Michigan.
  2. Affordable housing to persons with very low, low and moderate incomes.
  3. Assist very low, low and moderate income families achieve self-sufficiency when possible.

The Ironwood Housing Commission is committed to operating in an efficient, ethical and professional manner. The Ironwood Housing Commission creates and maintains ongoing partnerships with its residents and appropriate community agencies in order to accomplish this mission.

The Ironwood Housing Commission has adopted the following long-term goal and objectives:

  1. Minimize public housing vacancies.
  2. Renovate or modernize public housing units as needed.
  3. Provide or attract support services to increase independence for the elderly or individuals or families with disabilities.
  4. Making public housing the housing choice for the very low, low and moderate income residents or our community.           

Each year the Ironwood Housing Commission develops an annual plan which is based on the premise that if we achieve the goals and objectives set forth in the plan we will be working toward the achievement of our mission. The plans. statements, budget summaries, and policies se forth in the yearly annual plan lead toward the accomplishment of our goals and objectives. Taken as a whole, they outline a comprehensive approach toward goals and objectives that are consistent with the State of Michigan's Consolidated plan.

In summary, the Ironwood Housing Commission is continually improving the condition of the affordable housing that it owns, operates and maintains.
